WARNING:
THE GUI EQUIPMENT IS POWERED THROUGH AN UNINTERRUPTABLE POWER
SUPPLY (UPS). AC POWER WILL STILL BE PRESENT AT THE GUI AFTER THE
INPUT VOLTAGE HAS BEEN SHUT OFF. ELECTRICAL SHOCK IS POSSIBLE.
4.2.2
Exciter
For detailed descriptions of the circuits contained in the exciter, please refer to the
exciter manual.
4.2.3
Driver
The DD-1 Driver is a self contained RF amplifier that covers 470MHz to 860MHz in
four frequency ranges. It operates as a constant gain device with adjustable output
power. It amplifies the Exciter output to a level required to drive the Amplifier Cabinets
in the system. Fault detection and reporting circuitry communicate with the Main
Controller. Optionally, there can be two Drivers in the Control Cabinet.
The Driver Module pallet is based on the same pallet used in the PA Module except the
bias voltage is externally adjusted. The Driver Module operates in class A. The driver
pallet will shut down by its protection circuits in case of a fault. See the description in
the PA module section of the instruction book for the description of the pallet.
The driver is self protecting for temperature overloads and overcurrent. Shut down is
accomplished by shutting off the bias. The output power of the driver is monitored. If
the output power drops below a preset level, a signal is sent to the automatic exciter
switcher, causing it to switch to the alternate drive path if a redundant Exciter/Driver are
installed. Input and output power samples are used for AGC.
The driver also has manual ON and OFF switches to use if the Life support and the
Main Controller boards are not functional or for independent driver use.
4.2.4
RF Detectors
The Control Cabinet utilizes an RF detector to monitor the total system forward and
reflected output power and the Drive output of the cabinet. In multiple PA cabinet
transmitters the RF at the reject loads for each PA Cabinet is also detected. The RF is
converted to a DC voltage that is proportional to the RF level. This DC voltage is sent to
the Main Controller board for monitoring. The detector boards operate the same as the
boards in the PA Cabinet.
