Drive Output Calibration
This reading is the Drive output of the Control Cabinet (before the Control Cabinet
splitter in multiple cabinet transmitters).
STEP 1
Start with the transmitter operating at your nominal power level as
measured at the test load. Shut the transmitter off.
STEP 2
To measure the output power of the Driver, connect a digital power
meter (you will need an "N" elbow) with at least a 3.5W power sensor to
the directional coupler DC-1, J2 output (without the in-line 6dB pad in
single PA cabinet transmitters, and before the splitter in multiple cabinet
transmitters).
!
WARNING:
THE DRIVER OUTPUT SHOULD BE LESS THAN 2 WATTS IN ALMOST ALL CASES.
HOWEVER, THE DRIVER IS CAPABLE OF PUTTING OUT 6W. IF THERE IS A CON-
CERN ABOUT OVER-DISSIPATING THE POWER SENSOR, THEN NOTE THE
EXCITER POWER LEVEL IN STEP 1 BEFORE SHUTTING THE TRANSMITTER OFF.
RUN THE EXCITER POWER DOWN TO ZERO, CONNECT THE SENSOR, AND BRING
POWER UP SLOWLY WHILE WATCHING THE DIGITAL POWER METER TO PRE-
VENT DAMAGE TO THE SENSOR. THE FACTORY TEST DATA SHOULD SHOW THE
NOMINAL DRIVE POWER TO BE MEASURED HERE.
STEP 3
Turn the transmitter on and measure the Driver power.
STEP 4
Go to the Power Calibrations screen shown in Figure 5-3. Check the
detector voltage reading for the Drive stage. If it is 4V (+/- 0.5V) the rf
detector requires no adjustment and you can continue on with the next
step to finish the software calibration. If it is not within this range then
you will need to refer to paragraph "5.5.6 RF Detector Adjustment" on
page 5-21 to adjust the detector, then return here to finish the calibration.
STEP 5
Select the Drive Power reading button to allow adjustment of
the power associated with this 4 volts.
STEP 6
Using the INCREASE/DECREASE and SLOW/FAST
buttons, change the power reading on the GUI screen to equal
the measured output power at DC-1, J2. Note that this does
not change the voltage.
STEP 7
To save the new calibration, you must press “Save Data”.
STEP 8
Shut the transmitter off. Reconnect the Drive cable to DC-1 (include the
in-line 6dB pad for single PA cabinet transmitters.
STEP 9
If the detector was adjusted, be sure to return JP1 to the normal position,
pins 1-2 and secure the detector assembly.
