Section 4 Theory of Operation
Diamond Series™
e.
Module strike - If a module is faulty and it has been shut down, the Module con-
troller will send two successive ON commands to try to restart the module to
avoid a false shut-down mode. This will eliminate nuisance faults without dis-
playing them.
f.
Fault strikes - When certain faults are detected, the controller will re-start the sys-
tem to recover the partial power loss due to false fault conditions.
g.
Phase loss - A phase loss detector is used to monitor the three phase power
applied to the PA cabinet fan. If a phase loss occurs the controller will de-ener-
gize the fan. Once the phase is recovered the controller will restart system. The
restart process is the same as the power turn-on process and will be back to full
power in 4 seconds. The phase loss detector also monitors and reacts to phase
reversal.
4.3.3
Life Support
The function of the life support control system of the DiamondCD™ is to provide basic
“Life Support” control and protection for the transmitter in case the main
microprocessor fails in the Main Controller. This CPLD logic based life support
circuitry resides primarily on the Life Support board in the Control Unit with some
additional logic circuits on the Cabinet Controller board. The Life Support circuitry
consists of basic logic gates and timers as required. The Life Support controller sends
basic commands to the Exciter(s), Driver(s), and Amplifier Cabinet(s) and collects only
basic and critical information from each sub component. The Life Support board is on-
air serviceable.
4.3.4
Life Support Controller functions
The Transmitter ON/OFF control and raise/lower from the main controller will pass
through the Life Support board during normal operation, when the Main Controller has
a faulty condition, the Life Support board will respond to local and remote control or
Front Panel control.
The Life Support board allows the replacement of the Main Controller while on-air. In
Life Support mode the basic transmitter functions are met, however certain functions
are disabled during Life Support mode:
•
Display update
•
RS232 remote control
•
VSWR Foldback
