Insert the bypass tray into the machine.

Note

•

The type of paper in Tray 5 (bypass tray) is
normally set to plain paper. When changing
to a different paper type, change the paper
quality settings to match the type of paper to
be loaded so that you can maintain high
quality printing.
For more information on paper type settings,
refer to "Changing the Paper Settings" (P.50).

Loading Envelope in the Bypass Tray

Use the following guidelines to load envelopes of each size in the bypass tray:

Important •

Never use envelopes with windows, coated linings, or self-stick adhesive. Use of such envelopes may
lead to paper jams or damage to the machine.

Note

•

When five envelopes are set on the bypass tray, a misfeed may occur. If this happens, reduce the
number of envelopes.

•

Envelopes may bulge once they are removed from the packaging. To avoid possible paper jams,
flatten the envelopes as shown below before loading them in the bypass tray.

Com 10/DL

Load envelopes in portrait (short edge feed) orientation with the flaps closed and the
printing surface facing upward. Make sure that the flap side of the envelopes faces to the
right when you view from the front of the machine.

You need to pull up and slide the length guide. Load envelopes in portrait (short edge feed)
orientation with the flaps closed and the printing surface facing upward. Make sure that the
flap side of the envelopes faces to the right when you view from the front of the machine.

C5

Load envelopes in portrait (short edge feed) orientation with the printing surface facing
upward. You can print on the C5 envelopes either with the flap open or closed. To print on
the envelopes with the flap open, load them in the bypass tray so as to be fed into the
machine from the bottom of the envelopes as shown in the illustration indicated by "1". To
print with the flap closed, on the other hand, load them to be fed from their flap side as
shown in the illustration indicated by "2".
