Serial Communication, cont’d
MLC 52 Series MediaLink Controller • Serial Communication
5-26
When the ON button is pressed, the VIDEO button command 1 is issued, then the
PC button command 1.
If a daisy chain of button ties has been set up, pressing a linked button causes
commands to be sent out for only the links made from the pressed button to
subsequent buttons in the daisy chain. Button presses do not affect buttons
that come earlier in the chain. Also, input changes are executed for only the
pressed button, not for other buttons in the linking chain.
Programming the MLC 52 for control by the IR 452 Remote
The optional IR 452 Remote Control can issue commands to a projector, DVD,
VCR, or other device via the MLC 52, which can be programmed to pass on
commands received from the IR 452 via the optional IR Link. After programming
the MLC to recognize commands sent from the IR 452, you can control the
projector or other device by pressing the IR 452’s buttons while pointing the
remote control at the IR Link.
In the right section of the Controller Config. (MLC) tab, there is a diagram of the
IR 452. You can store remote control button commands on the MLC by adding IR
and/or RS-232 driver functions to these virtual buttons. The procedure for
programming IR 452 button commands is similar to the way you program
commands on the MLC 52 buttons in the left section of the tab.
In order to use the IR 452 remote with the MLC 52, you must install the
IR Link or IRL 20 and connect it to the MLC. (See
Wiring for IR remote
control
, in chapter 2.)
You cannot configure the MLC 52 from the IR 452 Remote Control.
To program the MLC to accept and send commands to the projector or other
device from the IR 452, follow these steps:
1
.
For RS-232 commands only:
If you intend to program MLC to respond to
RS-232 commands via an IR 452 button, load the RS-232 driver for your
device to the MLC 52. See
Loading Extron drivers for RS-232 communication,
earlier in this chapter.

.
Click on the button to which you want to add a command.
The IR 452 Remote Control buttons are represented as black rectangles on
the IR 452 diagram. When a button contains commands, a dot appears on
it. If the button’s first programmed memory block contains an IR command,
the dot is red. If the button’s first memory block contains an RS-232
command, the dot is green. (In the following example, the Display POWER
ON and POWER OFF buttons contain RS-232 commands.)
When you select a button, it becomes gray. In the example on the next page,
the Mute On button was selected.
