To operate a device using the IR 452, point the remote control directly at the
IR Link’s signal pickup window. The IR 452 has a range of approximately 30'
(12 m) within 40 degrees on either side of the axis (see the illustration
on the previous page).

.
Press the button for the function you want to perform. The following takes
place:
•
The remote control sends the pressed button’s programmed command
via infrared (IR) signal to the IR Link.
•
The IR Link sends the command to the MLC through the MLC’s IR IN
pole on the control connector, to which the IR Link is connected.
•
The MLC recognizes the command it receives via the IR INpole, and
responds as if its own equivalent button were pressed, issuing the
command to the appropriate device.
See
Wiring for IR remote control
in chapter 2,
Installation
, for information on wiring
the IR Link.
Setup operations cannot be performed from the IR 452 remote control.
Buttons on the IR 452 remote control
The buttons on the optional IR 452 Remote
Control duplicate the MLC 52’s front panel
controls for normal operation. The controller
responds to commands from the IR 452 as if
the corresponding button were pressed on the
controller.
From a distance of no more than 30' and
within 40 degrees of the axis, the IR 452 sends
infrared (IR) signals to an MLC 52 via the
optional IR Link IR signal repeater.
MLC 52 configuration cannot be
performed from the IR 452.
The IR 452’s Display Power button and the
VCR and DVD control buttons cannot control
a device through the MLC until commands
have been stored in the MLC’s memory. The
IR 452’s VCR buttons control the first (lowest
address numbered) VCR connected to the
MLC. The DVD buttons control the first
(lowest address numbered) DVD connected to
the MLC.
The IR 452 cannot control the volume
knob on the MLC 52 IR VC or the
MLC 52 RS VC. All other functions
on the IR 452 are available on the
MLC 52 VC models.
Commands are transmitted from the MLC’s
control connector (via hard wiring) and IR
ports (via IR Emitters or the optional
IR Broadcaster) when the corresponding
button is pressed on the IR 452 or on the
controller’s front panel.
