UPPER FEED ROLL CHAIN TENSION - FIGURE 162
To tighten the chain (item 1) of the upper feed rolls, com-
pletely unscrew the bolts (item 2) then remove the shims
(item 3) of the tightener (item 4) to obtain the specified
tension on the lower strand. Make sure that the tight-
ener is well centered on the chain rolls (item 5). Place
the shim on top of the tightener for later use. Securely
tighten all bolts.

LOWER FEED ROLL CHAIN TENSION - FIGURE 163
Tighten the lower chain (item 1) of the feed rolls by loos-
ening the bolts (item 2) and pushing up the tightener
(item 3) to obtain the specified tension. Make sure that
the tightener (item 4) is well centered under the chain.
Use the shims (item 5) to center the tightener. Securely
tighten all bolts.

STRAW CHOPPING - FIGURE 164
When the straw is chopped or for certain hay conditions,
the tension on the feed roll springs should be removed.
First, fully loosen the front springs (item 3) using the eye
bolts (item 2). If straw or hay keeps turning up in front of
the feed rolls, loosen the rear springs (item 1). It may be
necessary to remove the springs completely.
