Service the paper element on the indication of the air cleaner
clogginness indicator, and, if there is no indicator, during every M-2,
and under conditions of the heavy dust content do that more frequently,
basing on the operation experience in the given conditions.
The service
life of the paper element is roughly 1500 hours. Too frequent servicing
of the element shortens its life, since the total number of servicing ses-
sions is limited (not more than 6 times) due to possible disintegration
of a filtering paper.
To service the element remove the cover, unscrew the fastening
rod or nut and take the element out from the cleaner housing. If dust
without soot is found on the element paper, or the element is going to
be used immediately, blow on the element with dry compressed air
until dust is completely eliminated.
To avoid perforation of the filtering paper, have the compressed
air pressure not exceeding 300 kPa (3 kgf/cm2). Direct the air flow at
an angle to the surface and adjust the flow intensity by keeping the
hose at a distance from the element.
If of a dust, soot and oil are found on paper, and the air-blasting
is considered inefficient, wash the element in solution of washing de-
tergent

of concentration 20 – 25 g of detergent per 1 l of water.
I
t is possible
to use a solution of the same concentration of household detergent
powders. To wash the element put it on half an hour in the said solu-
tion and rotate or dip into the solution at high rate for 10 – 15 min.
Upon washing in a solution rinse the element in clean warm water and
thoroughly dry it. It is forbidden to apply to drying an open flame and
air with temperature above 70
o
C.
After each servicing of the element or at installation new one,
check its condition visually, by lighting it on the inside with a lamp. If
there are any physical defects (ruptures on the corrugated paper, peel-
ling of the cover and delaminating of the paper), which may result in
permeation of dust, replace the element.
CHECING INLET DUCT FOR AIR-TIGHTNESS
The air-tightness of the inlet duct is ensured by sealing and fas-
tening elements of the intermediate pipelines. If the cleaner and duct
are not tight, some dust and dirt will inevitably get along with air into
the engine cylinders, thus resulting in premature wear of the cylinder
and piston parts.
