6-22 – Printing on Various Media and Options
6.
Reassemble the printer following the procedure in “Reassembling the Printer”
later in this chapter.
Installing Optional Memory
Standard RAM for your printer is 64 MB. You can upgrade printer memory to 128
MB or to 256 MB.
If you order a memory upgrade with your printer it will be installed before the printer
ships.
When you first upgrade memory from the original 64 MB, the RAM jumper must be
removed to enable the SODIMM bank for the upgrade. Also, you can only install one
SODIMM upgrade on the controller board. This means that if you upgrade to 128
MB and later decided to upgrade to 256 MB, you have to replace the 128 MB
SODIMM with the 256 MB SODIMM.
Static electricity can destroy the printer’s electronic components. Always use an
antistatic procedure when working with the controller board. Use an anti-static
wristband or touch an unpainted metal surface to eliminate static electricity before
handling a circuit board. When handling a board, always hold it by the edges and
avoid walking around, particularly on carpeted surfaces.
To install a memory upgrade
1.
Access the controller board following the procedure in “Accessing the
Controller Board” earlier in this chapter.
2.
Reposition the RAM jumper if this is the first memory upgrade for your
printer.
a.
Pull the RAM jumper off of its two prong socket (fig. 6.32).
