Wave Server Installation Guide
Troubleshooting modem problems
The information in this section may be useful if you choose to use a different modem that has
not been certified for use with Wave ISM (see page 5-3) and experience problems.
The following terms are used throughout this section. For a complete description of each term,
see “Connecting to the Wave ISM via a modem” on page 5-10.
•
Wave modem
: The answering modem on the ISC1/ISC2.
•
Client modem
: The calling modem on the administrator PC.
•
Remote connection
: A modem connection made through a trunk port on the Wave
Server.
•
Local connection
: A modem connection made through an analog station port on the
Wave Server.
The client modem connects, but cannot authenticate user name and password.
Symptom: This problem has been observed on Creative Labs modems, and on modems that use
the Conexant chipset.
Solution:
1. Connect to the Wave Server from the administrator PC via your network (not via the
modem connection) as described on page 5-6.
2. In the Windows Control Panel on the Wave Server, choose
Administrative Tools >
Routing and Remote Access
.
3. In left panel of the dialog, right-click on the Wave Server, and then click
Properties >
Security > Authentication Methods
.
4. Clear the 2nd checkbox,
Microsoft encrypted authentication version 2 (MC-CHAP v2)
.
5. Click
OK

to save your change.
Once the client modem is connected to the Wave Server, other IP connections on the
administrator PC run very slowly.
Symptom: On the administrator PC, this problem affects IP applications such as your Internet
browser, e-mail, and so forth. This problem occurs because every DNS request is being routed
through the client modem.
