Caution
Because this condition would lead to a loss of communications, the host should
not attempt to change communications parameters or protocols during marginal
communications conditions.

The reader responds to command 611 (change to error correcting protocol) with a
Done
message in basic protocol and then switches to ECP. Conversely, when
switching from ECP back to basic protocol or data inquiry protocols (commands 610
or 613), the
Done
message is transmitted in ECP format.
Note:
TransCore recommends that basic protocol (not ECP) be used when
commands will be entered manually at the keyboard.
Buffer Control Mode
When buffer control mode (BCM) is enabled (command 6161), the reader transmits
only in response to a host command. The one exception to this rule occurs on start-
up when the reader transmits its two-line sign-on message. BCM can only be used
with ECP.
