SmartPass® Integrated Reader 2450 MHz (High Voltage) System Guide
Changing the Read Zone
The shape of the read zone may need to be adjusted if any external devices, such as
lights or a gate arm, are being used. The shape of the read zone determines when the
external device will be activated. When a tagged vehicle enters the read zone, the
external device is activated.
Example
: In a gate arm application, ensure that the read zone will provide enough
time for the gate to open and allow the vehicle to pass through the gate. The amount
of time can be changed by adjusting the angle of SmartPass, which lengthens or
shortens the read zone.
If the read zone is too wide or too long, it can be adjusted by loosening the screws on
the mounting brackets and adjusting the angle of SmartPass. Changing the angle of
SmartPass will change the width or depth of the read zone.
Communications Wiring Tables
Before connecting the SmartPass communications cable to the junction box,
TransCore recommends that you perform a quick test of the SmartPass hardware and
software using a PC. Select the proper wiring table for your SmartPass interface
from the tables shown in Appendix C, Wiring Tables. Instructions for testing
SmartPass are located in Chapter 3, “Quick SmartPass Test.” After you test
SmartPass with a PC, connect the SmartPass communications cable to the junction
box. You are now ready to connect power from SmartPass to the junction box.
Connecting Power from SmartPass to the Junction Box
A 3-conductor, 18-gauge wire pigtail connected to SmartPass provides AC power to
the unit.
Caution
The power source to SmartPass must be disconnected before SmartPass is wired to
the junction box.
Vorsicht
Die Stromversorgung des SmartPass abtrennen, bevor das SmartPass an die
Anschlußdose angeschlossen wird.
Precaución
Debe desconectar la fuente de alimentación al SmartPass antes de cablearlo a la
caja de conexión.
