General Software Information
Note:
The reader uses default communication parameters when operating in
download mode (9600 baud, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, no parity, basic
protocol). Also, the reader does not echo commands in download mode.
Download Procedure
1.
Enter command mode (command 01). The reader will transmit a
Done
message.
2.
Switch to download mode (command 05). The reader will transmit a
Done
message.
3.
Erase the program stored in flash memory (command 96). The reader will
transmit a
Done
message.
4.
Transmit the new program file from the host to the reader using command 90,
one Intel hex record at a time as shown below:
#90<Intel hex data record><CR>
The reader will transmit a
Done
message for each record.
5.
Once the download is complete, perform a checksum verification (command 91)
on the new program in the flash memory. The reader will transmit a
Done
message if the flash checksum verified or an
Error
message if it failed.
6.
Exit download mode (command 99). The software will re-execute startup to
ensure proper initialization of system parameters. If the flash memory checksum
verifies, the reader will come up in data mode and will transmit the sign-on
message shown below:
Model [Model] Ver [software version] SNYYYYYY
[Copyright notice]
If the flash checksum does not verify, the reader will come up in download
mode and will transmit the sign-on message shown below:
Model [Model] Ver 0.00
[Copyright notice]
If this happens, repeat steps 1 through 6 above.
Reports
SmartPass can be configured to transmit presence without tag reports and input
status change reports. Both report messages are handled the same as incoming tag
IDs and are buffered behind previously acquired tag IDs.
A presence without tag report is transmitted in data mode only. This report is sent if
a presence is detected without the acquisition of a valid tag ID.
If configured with command 82N to transmit input status change reports, the reader
will transmit a message to the host any time the inputs change state. Input status
