When using Baudot, you
occasionally end up getting
meaningless sequences of letters. Your station incorrectly decoded a
FIGS character or mistook some
other character to be a LTRS
character. If you are in command mode, type
'N(return)' to force the data controller
to Figures mode. If you are not in
command mode, type a (CTRL-C)
first.
The other station is not configured to
automatically 'unshift-on-space,
while your Data controller is
configured to assume the sending
station will revert to LTRS case
when a space is received. Set USOS to OFF
When using ASCII, you get garbled
text for periods of time. A bit error probably occurred in the
reception and your station is not
synchronized to the sender. There is no solution other than
improving signal to noise ratio of
received signal to reduce errors.
Because the start and stop bits in
ASCII are the same length as the data
bits, once synchronization is lost, it
may take a number of characters
before synchronization can be re-
established.
