When using
AMTOR
or
ALIST
, you
occasionally end up getting
meaningless sequences of
punctuation and numbers.

Linking difficulties
You’re able to make an ARQ link
with stations that are distant, but for
close stations (less than 300 miles)
you have difficulty.
You have difficulties making ARQ
links with stations with path
distances over 10,000 miles using
AMTOR ARQ,
Your radio’sT/R switching time is
too slow, resulting in your missing
the beginning of the response from
the other station.
Your radio’s AGC delay control is
set for slow operation and is
retarding receiver recovery to full
sensitivity.
Your transceiver’s receive-to-
transmit switching delay may be too
long.
Your
ADELAY
setting is greater
than necessary.
A temporary solution is to request
the other station to increase his
transmit delay (
ADELAY
) to allow
the QSO to proceed. Many older
radios do not have switching times
appropriate for efficient use of ARQ
at all distances.
Set AGC control on radio for FAST
or OFF.
At long distances, ARQ requires a
radio with fast key-up time to avoid
having to activate the PTT before the
completion of the received data
block.
Reduce
ADELAY
to the lowest value
which results in sufficient delay in
data to allow for your radio's receive
to transmit delay.
