Troubleshooting
13-9
Out-of-the-Box Problems
The majority of these problems are directly attributable to insufficient power.
Problem Symptom
Cause Test/Solution
The DSP doesn’t power up.
No lights come on.
No power to DSP
Blown power supply or DSP fuse
Check power supply to see if it’s on
and the DSPs power cord for an open
connection or conductor.
Replace the blown fuse. (Do NOT
use over-rated fuses, nor should you
try to power up the device if it blows
the replacement fuse. )
If it’s the DSP that’s blowing fuses,
call AEA for assistance.
Computer to DSP-232 Problems
The majority of these problems are directly attributable to correctly addressed serial (COM) ports; incorrect wiring or poor solder joints. Make sure you
use
only
pins 1-3 and 8-8 in the DB-9 connector. Also, perform a check of the cable to make absolutely sure it’s not a open circuit that’s causing a problem.
Problem Symptom
Cause Test/Solution
Computer won’t talk to DSP.
You don’t receive the sign-on
(autobaud) message when you
power up the DSP.
Open line in cable
Incorrectly wired cable.
Incorrect COM port selected or IRQ
conflict.
Software communication parameters
set incorrectly.
Inoperative U19/U20.
Continuity check cable and repair, if
necessary.
Wire correctly.
Select correct COM port.
Change IRQ of shared device.
(IRQ 5 generally works.)
Set per the parameters called out in
The Program
section of Chapter 2.
Replace chips. (Replacement chips
can be purchased from Radio Shack,
cat # 276-2520 and 276-2521.)
