SECTION 1 | GENERAL INFORMATION & OPERATING PROCEDURES
1.2.3 | Operating Procedures – Normal
Operation
1.2.3.1 | Starting and Driving Unit – Engine and
Transmission
1.2.3.1.1 | Operating the Engine
To operate the engine, refer to the Ford operator’s manual for
recommended engine starting and operating procedures.
1.2.3.1.2 | Operating the Transmission
The transmission is a 5-speed automatic. When in the drive position, the
transmission will shift automatically through all forward gears. Shifting
between drive, park, and reverse should be done when the engine is idling.
1.2.3.1.3 | Towing
It is not possible to start the engine by towing the truck. Take extreme
care when towing the vehicle. Before towing or pushing a disabled vehicle,
disconnect the driveline or lift the drive wheels off the ground.
1.2.3.2 | Operating the Hydraulic Pump
The hydraulic pump is driven from the PTO and the truck’s transmission. It
will run when the truck is in park, the parking brake is set. The PTO switch
on the front control station must be turned on.
1.2.3.3 | Operating Stabilizers
To lower (extend) the stabilizers, proceed as follows:
• Leave truck engine running with parking brake engaged and
transmission in park.
• Turn the PTO on.
• Place cab stabilizers control switch (Figure 1) in down position and
hold until stabilizer legs are fully extended. The red stabilizers down
indicators (in cab and van body) will light as soon as the stabilizers
begin to extend. The green stabilizers set indicators will light when
all the stabilizer legs are fully down and pressurized.
To rise (retract) the stabilizers, proceed as follows:
• Leave truck engine running with parking brake engaged and
transmission in park.
• Turn the PTO on.
• Place cab stabilizers control switch (Figure 1) in up position and
hold until stabilizer legs are fully retracted. The red stabilizers down
lights will go out when the legs are fully retracted.
CAUTION!
Failure to follow this procedure
may result in transmission
damage. Read truck operator’s
manual before starting or
driving truck.
NOTE:
The van body must be fully
lowered before the stabilizers
can be retracted.
NOTE:
Safety interlocks prevent the
truck from being driven with
the body raised or the rear lift
gate lowered.
WARNING!
Stay clear of stabilizer legs when
lowering or raising stabilizers.
WARNING!
Do not allow any part of the
truck to come into contact with
electrically charged wires. The
truck is not grounded. Look up
before raising the van body.
The truck must be parked on a
level surface before raising the
van body.
