Step 2: Hardware Installation
To change the Span type
1.
Log in to the Card and enter Enable mode.
2.
At the
ETM:1(r/w)>
prompt, type:
RESTART FAILSAFE
The Card restarts with all Spans in Fail Safe mode. The
Fail Safe
menu appears.

At the

prompt appears.

Type:
MAINT SPAN TYPE <Span
number> <Span type>
For example, to set Span 2 to T1 PRI, type:
MAINT SPAN TYPE 2 PRI

At the
FS(r/w)>
prompt, type:
RESTART
The "Fail Safe terminated" message appears and the Card restarts with
the new Span settings and returns to the
ETM>
prompt. (You may have
to press ENTER for the prompt to appear.)
The Spans restart offline automatically, so that you can configure them
with the proper telephony settings before placing them inline. During
Telephony Service Cutover, you will place the Spans inline.
Tip
You can also
change Span type
remotely from the
ASCII Management
Interface
. After you
type
Restart Failsafe
,
you do not see the
menu, but wait one
minute until the Card
reboots into failsafe,
indicated by the
Failsafe
icon in the
Performance Manager
tree pane. You can
then execute
commands.
