COMPRESSION TEST PROCESS
ENGINE COMPRESSION TEST
Before proceeding compression test, pls ensure that
tappet clearance (Inlet 0.08mm & Exhaust 0.18mm)
and cam matching line Valve timing index marks
alignment.
STEP-A
Start and warm-up the engine to normal running
temperature.
STEP-B
In case compression pressure less than 150 PSI,
then refit spark plug & start again to warm-up the
engine.
a) Remove spark plug & put few drops of engine oil
into the combustion chamber.
Remove the LH side spark plug & connect
compression gauge with adopter.
Please ensure that Ignition & engine Stop switch
“OFF” condition.
Hold throttle / rotor grip at “FULL” position & then
crank the Engine continuously until the needle in
the pressure gauge to stabilise.
Note down the reading and repeat the above
process 3 times. Take the average mean reading
to know actual compression pressure.
The above procedure need to repeated for RH
cylinder.
Specified engine compression pressure - 170 - 185
PSI.
Recommended tool - Pressure gauge range 50 -
300 PSI.
b) Connect the compression gauge & repeat above
said procedure as explained in the step-A.
If compression pressure reading increases, then
check for.
Improper alignment of piston ring end gap
position.
Piston ring jammed in groove.
Scoring / seizure of cylinder barrel / piston.
Worn out piston / rings.
Worn out cylinder barrel.
If compression pressure does not increase, then
check for.
Blown out cylinder head gasket
Improper torque of Rocker carrier mounting bolts
or cylinder head bolts.
Valve seat damage / leakage.
Valve stem bend.
Cylinder head warpage.
Improper valve timing.
STEP-C
In case of compression pressure is more than 185
PSI then engine requires Decarbonisation of
cylinder head / piston (combustion chamber).
Also check for smoky exhaust problem.
Repeat the same above process for RH Engine
compression test.
