Appendix 2 (Technical Background of this Troubleshooting)
It is required to apply AC transfer on some plain media. Stronger AC bias will always help
transferability (mottled effect) in general, but too much AC bias will tend to bring white
spots in halftone area which is like (1) on the image above.
This modified procedure aims to find out how much AC bias can be maximally applied on
the media, which is 2 steps away from the edge point as shown in (2), under the best
developer conditions (after toner refresh). Then, even if the developer condition becomes
worse, the setting (2) should be able to help the transferability as much as possible.
Furthermore, the SP change (one-off action #2) will make better toner control and
opportunity for toner refresh more often, so that engine can prevent its quality down due to
a lot of low coverage prints, process control and so on.
