1. Attitude Gyro Indicator Description
The attitude gyro indicators are all-electric
gyro indicators with a pictorial horizon, turn
index mark, and rotating dial that continuous
ly indicates helicopter pitch and roll compared
to pitch and roll references established by an
internal gyro. The schematic horizon (an
indexed hemisphere) moves behind a station
ary schematic aircraft which indicates the true
helicopter flight attitude. Attitude indication
results from internal gyro reactance to a
corresponding pitch and roll attitude of the
helicopter. Slip indication is by means of a
conventional ball and tube at the lower front of
the instrument face.
The gyros are caged by use of a knob at the
lower right of the instrument. A knob at the
lower center of the instrument allows aligning
the airplane outline with the horizon bar when
the helicopter is in level flight, and permits
pilot selection of desired pitch attitude
reference. A knob at the lower right is for
erecting the gyro.
NOTE:
D
To eliminate possibility of electrical inter
ference with KR 85 ADF equipment in
stalled, a noise filter is included as part of
the ADF option. For more information on
the filter installation. Refer to applicable
ADF manual for your equipment. (Table
202, Sec. 01-00-00).
D
These instruments do not provide infor
mation to the avionics systems. Gyros
that do interact with avionics equipment
are covered in the avionics portion of this
manual (Ref. Chap. 97).

Shipping,
Transporting and Handling Guidelines
Handle a gyro as if it were an egg. The gyro
transmitter operates in a gimbal, which allows
it to swing in any direction. Some gyros are
caged, which means a locking device is
installed to prevent the gyro transmitter from
swinging during ground handling or shipment.
If caging is provided, ensure that the gyro is
caged before and during all ground handling of
the gyro, or during ground handling of a
helicopter with the gyro installed.
A. Shipping and Transporting
(1). Always transport or ship a gyro in its
original container, with the dunnage
used by the manufacturer. If the
original container and dunnage is not
available, use substitutes approved by
or supplied by the gyro manufacturer.
Extensive damage to gyro bearings
frequently occurs when a gyro is
shipped or transported improperly
packed. Shipping in other than ap
proved containers can void the man
ufacturer's warranty.
(2). Outer shipping containers for gyros are
clearly marked THIS SIDE UP. Placing
a container with a gyro inside in any
position other than the position indi
cated on the container can cause the
gyro to be damaged.
(3). Do not remove the gyro from its
shipping container until it is beside the
helicopter for installation, or the work
bench for testing. When it is necessary
to see the gyro at any other time, open
the top of the container and remove the
dunnage. Before moving the gyro,
replace the dunnage and reseal the
container.
(4). When moving the gyro locally, use a
foam-padded cart with large rubber
