1-5. SAFETY
INSTRUCTIONS
When using your STE terminal the following safety instructions should always be followed to reduce the
risk of fire, electric shock and personal injury:
•
Do not use your STE near water.
•
Do not use your STE near a gas leak.
•
Avoid using your STE during an electrical storm. There is a remote risk of electric shock from
lightning.
•
Use caution when installing or modifying telephone lines.
•
Never install telephone jacks in wet locations unless the jack is specifically designed for wet
locations.
•
Never touch terminals or bare telephone wires unless the telephone line has been disconnected
at the network interface or wall jack.
It is best not to rely on the STE as your only source of unclassified telephone communications for the
following reasons:
•
If the STE is in secure-only mode, you will not be able to place a “911” emergency call.
•
In the commercial telephone system, telephones get their electrical power over the lines
connecting the telephone to the central office. ISDN telephones (like STE) get their power locally;
if you lose power, you cannot use the telephone (e.g., to place a “911” emergency call).
