A typically successful STU-III Rekey takes about 1 minute, although it can take less or more time
depending on the load experienced by the network switch and the KMC.
If the Rekey was successful,

6-2.2.2 SDNS
Rekey
If a SDNS Rekey is “DUE”, no secure calls can be made until a successful Rekey is performed. While in
REKEY MODE, only the Rekey call may be placed and the STE will not allow calls to be answered nor
will it notify you of incoming calls. When the STE is configured for ISDN and an incoming call is received,
the STE will provide a BUSY indication to the network.
The SDNS REKEY MODE function is available when:
1.
SDNS
was pressed in the PERFORM REKEY menu
2. The STE is configured for ISDN or PSTN (SCIP).
3. A User Card, associated crypto card containing SDNS keys, is inserted, and
4. The STE is idle (no calls active or on Hold).
CAUTION
Do not remove the Crypto Card or press any keys unless directed to do so while in
the process of a Rekey as it will disrupt the rekey process. The resulting
incomplete installation of keying materials may cause the card to have to be re-
initialized by the KPF.
