The SCIP Line Quality Setting is used to cause the STE to attempt to negotiate an SCIP modem
connection at a lower rate to support communications over lower quality connections. The default setting
is SCIP Line Quality: NORMAL.

The present quality setting (NORMAL or LOW) is presented in the display. If you choose to change the
setting, press
CHANGE
until the correct setting shows. Then press
SCROLL
to return to the SECURE
SIGNALING MODE menu or press
BACK
or
MODE
to exit the MODE function.
5-3.2 Off-hook
Settings
The STE allows you to change data and voice modes, and the SCIP Line Quality setting for active calls
while off-hook. Off-hook mode selections are only active for the duration of the call in progress. If you
change the data or voice mode while off-hook, it will be necessary to select
SECVOICE
or
SECDATA
in
order to regain synchronization. . If you change the SCIP Line Quality Setting while off-hook, the setting
will not take effect until the next initiation of an SCIP secure session within that call.
5-3.2.1 Secure Signaling Mode
To change the Signaling Selection while off-hook:
Press
MODE
to display the SECURE SIGNALING MODE menu (
) and follow the procedures
to make the settings and then press
MODE
or
BACK
to clear the display.
Remember, in order for off-hook changes to Signaling Selection settings to take effect, the call must be
transitioned to NONSECURE, and the secure session must be reinitiated. Also, remember that off-hook
settings only hold for the duration of the call and will revert to the previous setting upon going on-hook
(hanging up).
5-3.2.2 Changing Data or Voice Mode Settings while Off-Hook
To change the data mode or STU-III voice mode while off-hook:
If multiple lines are active at the terminal, scroll the display until the call to be changed is displayed. If the
mode change is required for a call on hold, select the desired
CALL APPEARANCE
and activate the call
to be changed.
Press
MODE
then
SCROLL
to display the SECURE DATA/SECURE VOICE menu (
) and
follow the procedures to make the setting and then press
MODE
to clear the display.
Remember, settings made off-hook will only hold for the duration of the call and will revert to the previous
setting upon going on-hook (hanging up).

To change the SCIP Line Quality while off-hook:
