9-4.3.2 Auto
Intercom
A form of abbreviated dialing, pressing the feature button assigned to Auto Intercom dials one of up to
one hundred people in an intercom group as programmed by the switch administrator. The switch will
send an Intercom Alerting pattern to the called terminal when this feature is used. This feature should be
assigned to a call appearance/feature button with an LED.
9-4.3.3 Busy
Indication
The Busy Indication feature indicates the busy or idle status of an extension, trunk group, terminating
extension group (TEG), hunt group, or loudspeaker-paging zone. Press the busy-indication button to dial
the specified extension. The LED associated with this button provides an indication of whether the
programmed facility is busy or not. This feature must be assigned to a call appearance/feature button
with an LED.
9-4.3.4 Busy
Verification
The Busy Verification feature allows a STE user to place test calls to other voice terminals, hunt groups,
and, trunks to determine the status of the called facility. Depending on what type of facility is being
verified the switch will provide different indications of the facility status. This feature does not require a
call appearance/feature button with a lighted LED.
For telephone extensions, if the extension is idle or has an idle call appearance, Busy Verification will
initiate a priority call to the dialed extension. If there is an active call with no idle call appearances, the
active call will be bridged with a warning tone to the bridged parties and the Verify originator remains on
the call. If the extension is out of service, a reorder tone will be returned from the switch.
If the facility is a member of a hunt group or distribution and is available for incoming calls, a call will be
placed to that member with a priority ring. If the member is not available for incoming calls, or the system
does not queue the call even if a queue is available, the switch will return the reorder tone to signify the
verification is denied.
If the facility is an incoming trunk and is in service, the switch generates a confirmation tone to signify
verification is complete. If the facility is an outgoing trunk in service, the switch will generate dial tone for
an outgoing call on the trunk to show verification is complete. If the trunk member is busy with an active
call, the active call will be bridged with a warning tone to the bridged parties and the Verify originator
remains on the call. If the trunk is out of service, the switch will return the reorder tone to signify the
verification is denied.
9-4.3.5 Call Park (Call Park Function Button)
Call Park allows you to place the current call in the Call Park State so it can be retrieved from another
extension. Call Park can be accessed in two different ways. If programmed at the switch, the Call Park
feature access code may be dialed, i.e., *5, to park the call for pickup at any extension. If a Call Park
feature button has been assigned to the terminal pressing the Call Park feature button and hanging up,
parks a call for retrieval at any extension. The parked call can be retrieved at any extension by dialing the
answer-back feature access code, i.e., #5, followed by the extension on which the call is parked. If a
feature button is used, this feature must be assigned to a call appearance/feature button with an LED.
Call Park also works in the 5ESS. This should be in the common features area.
9-4.3.6 Inspect (DEFINITY Specific Implementation)
The Inspect feature on the DEFINITY switch acts differently than that on the 5ESS switch. The DEFINITY
switch only provides information for normal or shared call appearance buttons. The Inspect feature
allows you to identify and screen new calls. When a feature button assigned to INSPECT is pressed
during alerting, held calls, or active calls, a lower case letter associated with the pressed button along
with related data about the active call appearance will be provided from the switch for display. Pressing
buttons for other call appearances will cause the switch to provide the call appearance letter and data
related to active calls on those call appearances. If an inactive call appearance is pressed, the switch will
provide the call appearance letter only.
