What is the FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) used for?
Digital oscilloscopes normally display the signal under observation as waveform data in
the time axis domain. By performing an FFT of this digital data, the signal under
observation can be displayed in the frequency axis domain, similar to a spectrum
analyzer.
FFTs can be used in the following types of signal analysis.
“High harmonic analysis, noise analysis, vibration analysis, characteristic evaluations
such as for a filter”
Restrictions when selecting FFT
•
When long memory is set, at waveform acquisition halt (Stop), the FFT results are
displayed.
•
PeakDet (ACQUISITION-Mode) cannot be selected.
•
The FFT is forcibly cancelled by turning ON the Roll menu of ACQUISITION.
•
Buttons and knobs that cannot be operated during FFT screen display.
Pressing of VOLTS/DIV, SAVE/CLEAR of REF
•
Automatic measurement cannot be performed during FFT screen display. (The
results are always displayed as ****.)
