Turning Mirrors
Turning Mirrors
Turning mirrors reflect the laser beam through 90° turns as needed to direct it from
the laser to the process site. Each mirror allows small, precise angle adjustments for
aligning the beam perfectly through the center of the BDS.
The mirror optic has a high-reflectance dielectric coating on one surface, which must
be installed toward the laser beam.
For beam delivery systems that require a gas purge system, a Teflon
®
gasket is placed
between the housing and the turning mirror block cover to keep the purge gas from
leaking out.
Adjusting a Mirror
A turning mirror has two gimbal adjustment screws, one for each axis of movement.
A mark next to each screw shows which way it moves the mirror, side-to-side or
front-to-back.
The screws can be adjusted with the mirror cover on or off. To adjust them with the
cover on, first remove the screws that cover the access holes in the cover. Then the
adjustment screws can be reached through the access holes.
