If you need help in using the Device Manager, press the
F1 key to view the online help.
You must restart your computer before any Device
Manager changes can take effect. If you plan to turn
your computer off immediately to change jumper
settings, you do not need to restart your computer first.
Resolving Plug and Play resource
conflicts
If you install hardware that gives your computer a
combination of Plug and Play hardware and non-Plug
and Play hardware, you must enter the Setup Utility
before you install the hardware to prevent resource
conflicts. In the Setup Utility, you can assign the
following ISA Legacy resources for the non-Plug and
Play hardware so that your computer’s BIOS does not
attempt to assign those resources to Plug and Play
hardware:

System memory regions
•
Input/output ports
•
Direct memory access (DMA) channels
•
Interrupt requests (IRQs)
The documentation that came with your new hardware
should contain information about the settings required
by the new hardware. If the documentation refers you to
information about your computer’s I/O addresses,
system board interrupt requests (IRQs), or DMA channel
assignments, you can find this information in
“Specification tables” on page 151.
If you need information about the adapter cards
installed in your computer, refer to the documentation
that came with the cards. This documentation might be
printed or online.
For information about the hardware combinations that
require you to assign ISA Legacy resources, see Table 2,
“Adapter card configurations,” on page 77. If you
purchased a computer with an Mwave adapter card, the
Mwave card is not Plug and Play. If you purchased a
computer with a TV/MPEG adapter card, the TV/MPEG
card is Plug and Play.
