Using the Setup Utility
35
Disk BIOS translation
With most operating systems, this option lets your
computer use IDE hard disks larger than 528MB.
You can choose to have a hard disk use Logical Block
Addressing (LBA) or Cylinder/Head/Sector (CHS) format.
If you purchase a new hard disk and it supports LBA,
you should select the LBA format for that disk.
If you install a hard disk that was previously used on
another computer, you should select the translation
mode that was used for the disk on the other computer.
For example, you should not select the LBA format
option if the hard drive you are using is formatted in
CHS.
Changing input/output port
configuration
From the Setup Utility Main Menu, select the Input/
Output Ports option to view or change port
configuration settings. The Input/Output Ports menu
appears. This menu lets you configure serial and parallel
ports. It also displays whether a mouse is installed and
lets you configure specific keyboard settings.
note:
You may need to disable this option if you are
using Novell Netware with IDE hard disks larger
than 528MB.
Serial port (A or B)
These options display the current addresses for the
serial ports on your system board. Your computer
comes with two serial ports.
If you install an adapter card with a serial port, an error
message will notify you if you have an address conflict
among the serial ports. Use this menu to make sure that
each serial port has a different address. If you change
serial port addresses in this menu, you might also need
to make changes in the software that uses serial ports.
For instructions on changing your software, see the
user’s guide or online information that came with the
software.
Parallel port
This option displays the current address for the parallel
port on your system board. Your computer comes with
one parallel port.
If you install an adapter card with a parallel port, an
error message will notify you if you have an address
conflict between the parallel ports. Use this menu to
make sure that each parallel port has a different address.
If you change parallel port addresses in this menu, you
might also need to make changes in the software that
uses the parallel port. For instructions on changing your
software, see the user’s guide or online information that
came with the software.
