Using the Setup Utility
33
Viewing system information
From the Setup Utility Main Menu, select the System
Information option to view information about the
hardware installed on your computer. You cannot use
this menu to change information. The Setup Utility
automatically updates this menu when you:
•
Add or change hardware on your computer
•
Make changes to other menus in the Setup Utility
and save those changes
The System Information menu contains information
about the processor, memory, drives, and ports installed
in your system. This menu also shows if the mouse is
installed.
Changing video configuration
From the Setup Utility Main Menu, select the Video
Information option to view or change video
configuration settings. The Video Information menu
appears. This menu contains information-only options
and configurable options.
Video controller
This option displays the name of the video controller
installed on your system.
Video memory
This option displays the amount of memory your
computer uses for video. Your computer’s video
memory is actually part of your system memory (RAM).
The amount of memory you select here will be
subtracted from system memory. If your computer has
16MB of RAM and you select 2MB for video memory,
your computer will have 14MB of system memory left.
If your computer has 16MB of system memory, you can
select either 1MB (1024KB) or 2MB (2048KB) of video
memory. You should not select 2MB of video memory
unless you have at least 10MB of system memory.
Changing disk drive
configuration
If you install a new diskette, hard disk, or CD-ROM drive,
you should enter the Setup Utility to identify or verify
the type of drive you installed.
From the Setup Utility Main Menu, select the Disk Drives
option to view or change disk drive configuration
settings. The Disk Drives menu appears. It shows the
size of the drives installed in your computer and
indicates what additional drives can be installed.
