Chapter 8: Diagnosing and recovering from problems
The Rapid Resume Features screen does not
appear in the Setup Utility and the Rapid
Resume Manager icon does not appear in the
AptivaWare window.
Check your Guide to HelpWare and All the Extras folder for information on
obtaining service.
When you turn on the computer, the desktop is
not as you left it when you turned off the
computer.
1. Make sure another person hasn’t used the computer and changed the
desktop.
2. Make sure Rapid Resume is enabled.
3. Choose the Rapid Resume option from the Setup Utility Main Menu, and
make sure that the APM BIOS Mode option is enabled.
Computer turns off without saving information.
1. Make sure Rapid Resume is enabled.
2. Make sure Windows 95 is running when you turn off or suspend your
computer. If you are running DOS instead of Windows, Rapid Resume will
not work.
3. Make sure the APM BIOS Mode option in the Setup Utility is enabled. For
information about this option, see “Changing Rapid Resume features
configuration” on page 37.
4. Make sure the On/Off Button Mode option in the Setup Utility is set to Rapid
Resume. For information about this option, see “Rapid Resume advanced
options” on page 40.
5. EMM386 or an upper memory manager program may not be set up
properly.
You pressed the on/off button on the system
unit, but the computer has not turned off after 5
minutes.

obtaining service.
Program is not active when you turn on the
computer to resume working.
Restart the program. Some programs will not operate correctly with Rapid
Resume.
Adapter cards don’t work after you turn on the
computer to resume working.
In the Rapid Resume menu of the Setup Utility, make sure the Initialize
Adapter Cards option is set to “Reload Device Drivers.” Some adapter cards
do not operate correctly with Rapid Resume.
