To install Ethernet support 

If you have installed retail Windows and your HP Notebook contains a built-in 3Com 
10/100 Mini PCI Ethernet Adapter, you need to install the LAN drivers. The LAN drivers 
are contained in the \HP\DRIVERS\NT4\LAN subdirectory. 

Before you begin, create a directory on C: called “OPTIONS” and copy the i386 
directory of the Windows NT installation CD into the C:\OPTIONS directory. 

The following Windows NT setup procedure assumes that networking has not been 
installed on your computer. 

Before setting up the adapter, you will need to know: 

•

  Your network file server name, network account user name, and password 

•

  Protocol used in the Microsoft Windows network (NWLink IPX/SPX Compatible 

transport, TCP/IP protocol, NetBEUI protocol) 

•

  NT Server domain or workgroup to which you belong 

•

  Your IP address (unless you are using DHCP) 

Follow these steps to install the 3Com 10/100 Mini PCI Ethernet Adapter driver when 
networking has not been installed: 

1.  In the Control Panel, double-click Network. 

2.  When the system prompts: “Windows NT Networking is not installed. Do you want 

to install it now?”, click Yes. This opens the Network Setup Wizard. 

3.  Check Wired to the network, and then click Next. 

4.  When the system prompts to have setup start searching for a network adapter, click 

Select from list.
