IGNITION SYSTEM
PEAK VOLTAGE
ADAPTER
Remove the right side cover (page 2-3).
With the ignition coil primary wire connected, connect the
peak voltage tester or adaptor probes to the ignition coil
primary terminal and body ground.
TOOL:
Imrie diagnostic tester (model 625) or
Peak voltage adaptor: 07HGJ-0020100
With commercially available digital multimeter
(impedance 10 MΩ/DCV minimum)
CONNECTION: Black/Yellow (+) – Body ground (–)
Turn the ignition switch “ON”.
Crank the engine with the starter switch, and read ignition
coil primary peak voltage.
PEAK VOLTAGE: 100 V minimum
If the peak voltage is lower than specified value, follow the
checks described in the troubleshooting chart (page 16-2).
Avoid touching
the spark plug
or tester probes
to prevent
electric shock.
IGNITION PULSE GENERATOR PEAK
VOLTAGE
• Check the cylinder compression, and make sure the
spark plug is installed correctly in the cylinder head.
Remove the fuel tank (page 2-3).
Disconnect the CDI 4P White connector.
Connect the peak voltage tester or adaptor probes to the
ignition pulse generator terminals (Blue/Yellow) of the 4P
connector.
TOOL:
Imrie diagnostic tester (model 625) or
Peak voltage adaptor 07HGJ-0020100
With commercially available digital multimeter
(impedance 10 MΩ/DCV minimum)
CONNECTION:
Blue/Yellow wire terminal (+) – Body Ground (–)
Shift the transmission into neutral.
Turn the ignition switch “ON”.
Crank the engine with the self starter, and read ignition
pulse generator peak voltage.
PEAK VOLTAGE: 0.7 V minimum
If the peak voltage measured at the CDI 4P connector is
abnormal, measure the peak voltage at the ignition pulse
generator connector.
