MAINTENANCE
Check the tires for cuts, embedded nails, or other damage.
Check the trueness of each wheel:
–
Front wheel (page 12-10)
–
Rear wheel (page 13-4)
Replace the tires when the tread depth (TWI) reaches the
following limits.
MINIMUM TREAD DEPTH:
FRONT: 1.5 mm (0.06 in)
REAR: 2.0 mm (0.08 in)
Measure the tread depth at the center of the tires.
STEERING HEAD BEARINGS
Support the motorcycle on its center stand, and raise the
front wheel off the ground.
Check that the control cables do not interfere with
handlebar rotation.
Check that the handlebar moves freely from side to side.
Check that the fork leg moves freely from forward to
backward.
If the handlebar or fork moves unevenly, binds, or has
vertical movement, inspect the steering head bearings
(page 12-23).
Check the tire pressure with a tire pressure gauge when
the tires are cold.
