Name and Define the Console Signals
Once you have edited the NetWave device settings, you can define the signal names and audio modes for
the two types of console signals:
●
Sources
●
Destinations
1.
To open the NetWave console tree in the Community Explorer pane and view the Signal Summary
and Fader settings, click + next to the NetWave console name.
2.
To show the VMCC Sources Summary (Figure 4-6)
a.
In the Community Explorer pane, click + next to Signal Summary.
b.
Under Signal Summary, click Sources. The Signal Summary for the Sources appears in the edit
pane.

3.
In this pane, edit the default settings for the In Room Name, Community Name, Description, Link
w/Next, and Hidden columns as needed. (More information for these settings appears after this
procedure.)
4.
By default, all sources and destinations are set as linked stereo signals with the right audio channel
hidden. To change from a stereo to a mono signal, as for a microphone input, clear the Link w/Next
check box for the left channel of the source signal.
5.
To also use the right channel input, clear the Hidden check box.
The Sources pane shows the signals from the NetWave that the VistaMax system detects. These signals
include one input from each channel, as well as the four program buses (Figure 4-6), stereo cue, and
Telco mix-minus and record signals. (The actual input used, analog or digital, is defined by the setup
buttons on each DSP card.)
The In Room Names are what appear in VistaMax selector panels and in Dual Router panels throughout
the system when Tier Naming Convention 1 (a VMCC device setting) is used on the console’s parent
device. You can create an In Room Name of up to 10 alphanumeric characters long and can include
spaces, dashes, underlines, forward and back slashes, and periods. On a stereo signal, you only need to
edit the left name; the right channel can remain at its default name (such as PGM 3 R). Typically, the
Description column settings remain at the default but can be used to identify the channel source (such
as “Input 24 analog from CD player”). Duplicate In Room and Community names are allowed, so be
careful to create unique names, preventing signal selection confusion from duplicate source names.
Names in the Community Name column are only used when Tier Naming Convention 2 or 3 is used on
the NetWave’s parent device. The Community Name is limited to four characters, since up to six
characters are used up by the Tier 2 and Tier 3 name prefixes. Typically, these naming conventions are
only used when multiple stations are networked together in large VistaMax systems. When Tier 1 is used
on the NetWave’s parent device, the Community Names are not used and can be left at their defaults.
The VistaMax and Envoy manuals give additional information on Tier Naming Conventions.
6.
In the Community Explorer pane, under Sources, click Destinations to show the routed channel
inputs and External 1 and 2 monitor inputs.
