7.4.7
Calculate & Edit Magnification Difference
This calculation is done to accurately display measurements on the screen in millimeters.
1.
Install the Measured Plastic dowel into the small specimen tube, secure the dowel with foam,
and note the size of the dowel (e.g. 11.684) in the Worksheet.
2.
Mount the small specimen tube.
3.
Ensure the filter wheel is set to 4.

4.
Turn off the
X-Ray and Motor Controller
application if it is still on.
5.
Warm up the X-Ray Source.
6.
Once warm, launch
eXplore
Scan Manager
by double-clicking on the desktop icon.
7.
Click
Scan New Subject
and name the subject
pixel_size
.
8.
Enter
mag_diff
in the Scan Description field.
9.
The
Scan Control
window opens. Choose
2x2wire
from the Protocol drop-down menu.
10. Select the
Scan bright and dark
first
,
Recon after scan
and
Home all stages
checkboxes
under Options.
11. Click on the
Fluoro
button.
When prompted, place
specimen in the scanner and
press
OK
.
12. Click
Menu
in
Fluoro
and
choose
Position Stages
from
the drop-down menu.
13. Adjust the elevation until the
plastic dowel is in the mid
section of the
Fluoro
screen,
then Exit
Fluoro
.
If the width of the small
specimen tube does not fit in the
field of view, calibration will
need to be repeated.
Verify all values before
restarting calibration.
14. Press the
Start Scan
button (the scan takes approximately 30 minutes). When prompted,
remove specimen from scanner. Bright and dark scans are scanned. When prompted, place
specimen back in scanner.
eXplore Reconstruction Utility
is automatically launched once the scan is complete.
15. Click the
Set to Central Slice
button.
16. Click the
Full Res
button.
