Wh e n y ou move the paper, do so by pressing the ON LINE bu tton
so th a t th e printer is off-line , and then using the LF button to m ove
i t u p i n divi du a l lines or the FF button to move the paper to th e top
of t h e n ex t pa ge. If you do move the paper using the p a p e r feed
kn o b a nd yo u wish to check whether you have disturbed th e t op of
p age se t t ing , use the FF button with the printer off-line to mo ve the
p a p er to w h e re the LX-80 thinks the top of page is. Having found
t h at i t is n ot a t the perforation , turn the paper feed knob to m ove
th e p e r fo r a t io n to be in line with the top of the ribbon guid e.
Th e di s t ance travelled by the page when you press the FF butt on or
w h e n c omputer sends a form feed command is normally 11 i n ches .
I f yo ur pages are of a different length you can adjust the l e n g th in
tw o w ays. On e of the

switches described in Appendix D al l ows
y ou t o s p e ci fy the page length as 11 or 12 inches. You c a n a l so
s p ec ify th e l e ngth using a code sequence. There are two w ays to
m a k e th e s p e cification . The code <ESC> C sets the length o f the
p age b y th e number of lines at the current line spacing . Th e code
< ESC > CO s ets the page length as a number of inches . Th e full
sy nt ax f o r u si ng these codes is given in Appendix C .
Paper-Out Sensor
Under th e pl a ten (the black roller) of the LX-80 printer is a sma l l
s wi t ch th a t se nses whether or not paper is in the printer . Wh e n t h e
e nd of the paper passes this switch, it sends a signal that sound s t h e
be e per and s tops the printing. This is not only to save wear on the
print head , r ibbon and platen , but necessary to make sur e that
printing s top s if you are printing a document on single she e t s of
pap e r and ha v e to change the paper . The switch is at the back of t he
platen and s o some distance from the head and so printing s t ops
a bout 2 inch e s from the end of the page. Therefore, if y ou u se
s in g l e - s heet p a per in the LX-80 , you cannot print on the last 2 in c h es
o f ea ch p a g e without overriding this feature.
The paper-out sensor can be deactivated in two ways. One i s a
temporary s olution using the code sequence <ESC> 8 to deactiv ate
th e pape r-o ut s ensor . You can send the <ESC> 9 code to set i t on
again. Th e sec ond method is to permanently deactivate it by ch ang-
ing one of th e
DIP
switches as described in Appendix D.
Although yo u can print to the end of the page with single- s h eet
p a p e r , y ou must be careful . If the computer software does not r eal-
ize yo u h a ve t o change the paper and does not tell you to chang e the
