Enlarged Mode
Perhaps t h e most dramatic mode on the LX-80 is enl a rged . I t pro-
duces extra-wi d e characters that are good for title s and h eadings.
For this mode, the dot patt e rn of each character is enlarged and a
dup l icate set of dots is printed one dot to the right. You can see the
difference bet w e en pica and enlarged pica in Figure 6-3 .
You can try en l a rged y our se lf b y u s ing the code WI in th e m aster
program. Notice that enl a rg e d uses an <ESC> cod e form at th at is
slight l y differen t from the pr e viou s ones . You must u se th e num eral
1 as well as a ca pital W to turn on enlarged. For this mode th e l etter
Wand t he nu m e ral 1 together turn on the mode and the let ter and
the numeral

together turn it off . Thus <ESC> WI turn s on
enlarged and < ESC> WO turn s it off.
Those of you w ho ar e programmers ma y be interest e d in another
form of en l arge d. In thi s alternate form , called one-lin e enl arged ,
the printi n g is th e s ame as th a t in Figure 6-3, but it i s turn e d on by
ASCII 14 and i s turn e d off b y a line fe e d , ASCII 20 , or <ESC>

Mode Combinations
