Emphasized works only in draft pica and NLQ modes . In elite a n d

re du ce d p r int speed , the LX-80 cannot fire , retract , and again fire
t h e p i n s qui c kly enough to print overlapping dots.
Yo u d o sac ri f ice some print speed and ribbon life with empha s i zed,
b e c a u se th e print head slows down and prints twice as man y d ots,
but th e i n c r eas e in print quality is well worth it . Indeed , y ou may
wa nt to u se e mphasized instead of the NLQ mode for some p ur-
p oses b eca u se emphasized printing is faster than NLQ printin g.

a nd th e n prin t s a sa mple of printing after the code has been gi ven so
t h at yo u ca n see what the code s do. Ensure that you have typ ed the
b l a nk s p a c es in lines 70 and 80. If you are using a BASIC whi c h d oes
not h ave th e LPRINT command, go to Appendix F to check h ow to
m od i fy th e pro gram.

Now r un th e program. When the first question appears on the
sc re e n , t y p e a capital E and then press the RETURN key. Typ e t he
w ord " emphasized" and press the RETURN key in answer to th e
seco nd question. The program is easy to use. Just rememb e r to
press th e RETURN key after the answer to each question and t o u se
a c a pit a l l e tt e r in the answer to the first question unless asked t o u se
a low e r c a se l e tter for a specific code.
