Justification with NLQ
The NLQ (Ne ar Letter Quality) mode offers a justificati o n com-
man d that w i l l give you four choices in the formatting of your text.
The comma n d i s <ESC> a followed by the ASCII code f o r one of
these numbers :

Left justification
1 Centering
2 Right justification
3 Fill justification
Left justificatio n i s th e s tandard format, in which the l e ft m argin is
straight and the right margin is ragged. This is the w ay m ost type-
written pages lo ok .
The centring co mmand centres a line of text between the m argins.
This is handy f or headings , titles , and captions.
Right justificatio n i s th e opp os ite of left justific a tion . The ri ght mar-
gin is straight a nd the left is ragged.
Fi ll justification put s extra space s between words wher e nec essary so
that both the le ft a nd right margin s are ev en . Thi s i s th e way most
magazines, news p a per s, and books (including this one) ar e p rinted.

In using justifica tion modes in th e print e r , y ou must send all c h arac-
ters to the printe r o n e par a graph a t a tim e. If y ou are u s in g a word
processor, it wi ll c a lculate the numbers of characters on a lin e and
sp l it the words i n th e correct plac e. Thus you should not set ju stifica-
tion in the printe r i f y our word processor is also s et to us e it , since
the two wi ll conf lict a nd you will not be able to predict the out come.
