SelecType Cautions and Tips
Onc e y ou h a ve learned the simple technique for controllin g print
s t y l es w ith the panel buttons , you can use it whenever y ou wish.
You sho u l d be aware of two minor restrictions , however .
• SelecType i s designed to control the printing of an entir e file or
document, not an individual line or word. To print a sin g l e word
in an e nh a nced mode, you will have to place a printin g code in
your doc ument, giving a print command as part of the s o f t ware's
p r int o pt io n or use the commands in a programming l a n guage
s u ch as BASIC .
• If there are print codes in the document or file you ar e pr inting ,
those codes override your SelecType settings . This i s un likely to
happe n , si nc e y ou would normally use SelecType on fil es t h at do
not con t ain print codes but which you wish to print out to t ally in
one mo d e . Remember that if the LX-80 follows the S e l ecType
instructions f or onl y p a rt of a document , you may h ave print
codes in t h e docum e nt that are conflicting with the S elecType
modes.
R emember t h a t any mode you turn on with SelecType sta ys in effect
u n t i l the p ri nt e r is turned off or rec e ives a cancelling or r eset code.
Turning off the printer is the simplest method of canc el l ing the
modes you have s et , but if y ou wan t to learn how to canc e l t h em by
using SelecTy pe , turn to the s ection called Cancelling Fun ctions
with SelecType in Appendix F .
