Computer Access
Many individuals who use DynaVox devices have educational, professional and personal reasons to use
computers. With DynaVox Series 4 computer access features, you can use your DV4/MT4 to:

Use commercial software programs
●
Surf the Internet
●
Compose and send e-mails
●
Generate text documents
●
Send instant messages
●
Send information to a printer
There are several different ways you can use your DV4/MT4 device to access your computer. You can
connect an AccessIT device to your computer and use it to receive infrared signals from your DV4/MT4.
You can also use a serial cable connection between your DV4/MT4 and the computer, in combination with
computer access software like SerialKeys or AACKeys.
Whether you are using an infrared device or a serial cable connection, your DV4/MT4 device must have a
way to know that it should send your selections to the computer instead of (or in addition to) the Message
Window. You can accomplish this by using buttons with Computer Access behaviors or by using your
device’s Alternate Output mode.
Setting Up Computer Access
Prepare your DV4/MT4 device for computer access by following these steps:
1. To use infrared computer access, plug the AccessIT cable into a USB port on your Windows or
Macintosh computer. (Windows computers may display a series of

windows as the AccessIT is recognized.)
To use computer access software (SerialKeys or AACKeys), establish a cable connection by
plugging the round end of the serial cable into the serial port on your DV4/MT4 device. Plug
the wide end of the cable into the computer.
2. On your DV4/MT4, select the pull-down menu in the title bar at the top of the touch screen.
3. Select
Setup
in the pull-down menu.
4. Select
Setup Menu
in the second pull-down menu. The
Setup
menu will open.
5. Select the
Input/Output Settings
button. The
Input/Output Settings
menu will open.
6. Select the
Computer Access
pull-down menu and choose one of the available options:
To use an AccessIT infrared device, select the
AccessIT
option.
To use SerialKeys or AACKeys software, select the
SerialKeys
option.
7. Select the
OK
button to exit the
Input/Output Settings
menu.
