SHIFTERS UNDER THE HANDLEBAR
Currently, most mountain bikes shifters set is mounted at the bottom of the handlebar and is composed
of two levers that operate with the thumb and forefinger. To select a lower gear, push the biger right
shifter (lower) with your thumb to select a larger rear sprocket.
A firm push changes the chain from sprocket, and if you keep pushing, the chain will move through the
various sprockets of the cassette. By pulling the smallest left shifter (top) with the forefinger, the chain
will move from a larger dish to a smaller one.
To select a higher gear, pull the right smaller shifter (top) with the forefinger to engage a smaller rear
sprocket. By pushing the higher left shifter (lower) with the thumb, the chain will move to from a smaller
plate to a larger one. For instructions, see page 21.
PEDALS AND CRANKS
Look for the letters “R” for right, and “L” for left, stamped on each pedal spindle. Start each pedal spindle
by hand to avoid stripping the threads. (Note that the right hand pedal attaches to the chainwheel side
crank arm with a right-hand (clockwise) thread. The left pedal attaches to the other crank arm and
has a left hand (counter-clockwise thread). Tighten with a 15mm narrow open ended wrench. It is very
important that you check the crank set for correct adjustment and tightness before riding your bicycle.
The new brackets can be initially loosened. Once installed the pedals, remove the protective dust covers
from the centre of each bracket. With a 14mm wrench or 8mm Allen wrench tighten the nuts / bolts shaft
firmly (approx. 350 in.lbs / 39,5 N.m) and replace the protective dust covers.
If you have attached the pedal to an incorrect bracket that may cause irreparable damage to the nuts
pedal. Before using the bike for the first time, make sure that the pedals are tighten.
