Taking the time to systematically explo re vario us aspects o f the 1 2 8 facto ry-set vo ices is an excellent way to g et a tho ro ug h
understanding o f the AN 1 x’s so nic rang e and po wer. It’s also a natural way to quickly familiariz e yo urself with so me o f the
fundamental o peratio ns yo u’ ll use during perfo rmance as well as in vo ice, Arpeg g iato r, Step Sequencer and Free EG creatio n
and editing sessio ns.
Try the simple o peratio ns which fo llo w as yo u select and play each preset vo ice, and take no te o f what happens to the so und
as yo u chang e the vario us setting s. If, alo ng the way, yo u stumble upo n a so und yo u want to keep, simply perfo rm a Vo ice
Sto re o peratio n (see pag e 9 8 ). If, ho wever, yo u mess up a so und to o much, there’s no need to wo rry: Just reselect the same
vo ice to retrieve the o rig inal so und data and start o ver ag ain! Unless yo u perfo rm a Vo ice Sto re o peratio n, no chang es yo u
make will be permanent. Even if yo u do decide to sto re a vo ice, yo u need no t wo rry abo ut lo sing any o f the facto ry-set
vo ices permanently, because the entire bank can be recalled (see pag e 1 0 0 ).

W hen yo u select a vo ice, the LED beside the
[SCEN E 1 ] o r [SCEN E 2 ] switch (o r bo th LEDs) will
be lit, indicating the Scene status which was sto red
as vo ice data. Press each switch to co mpare the
difference between the so und o f Scene 1 and
Scene 2 .

Press bo th [SCEN E] switches simultaneo usly to
activate the Scene Co ntro l functio n, then ro ll the
[MO DULATIO N ] wheel fo rward and back to
mo rph, o r cro ss-fade between Scenes as yo u play.

W hen yo u select a vo ice, first take a lo o k at the
info rmatio n which appears in the LCD, such as Po ly
mo de (“ PO LY” , “ MO N O ” , “ LEG ATO ” ), Layer mo de
(“ SIN G LE” , “ UN ISO N ” , “ DUAL” , “ SPLIT” , etc.), and
whether the Arpeg g iato r (“ ARP” ) o r Sequencer
(“ SEQ ” ) is o n. This reveals the fundamental nature
o f a vo ice at-a-g lance.
