SERIES 8116/8118 16-/18-METER EARTH STATION ANTENNA
4-29
The panels are aligned using a theodolite attached to the center of
the hub. Care must be exercised to ensure the panels are in
alignment after the fasteners are torqued. Perform the following
procedure for final alignment of the panels using a theodolite and
an alignment kit PN 479609.
Final Alignment of
Panels
1. With reflector pointed at zenith, assemble drill template in reflector
and attach to theodolite spindle base.
2. Drill a 3/16 inch (0.48 cm) diameter hole in the panel surface above
each of the panel adjustment rods. (There are 720 adjustments for an
18-meter antenna and 528 adjustments for a 16-meter antenna.)
Install a plastic target into each drilled hole.
3. Using elevation drive system, position reflector at 35° to 40°
elevation.
4. Using theodolite, adjust each panel screw to set the surface within
0.005 inch (0.13 mm) accuracy (see Figure 4-7). Tighten adjusting
nuts on adjuster screw.
5. When all adjustments have been completed, use theodolite to verify
and record the setting of all targets (see Appendix C). Readjust any
locations which are out of tolerance.
6. Tighten four locking nuts on each adjuster screw, so that each
connection is double-nutted.
