The spars and subreflector installation procedure includes assembly
of spars and subreflector and installation of spars and subreflector
assembly. The spars and subreflector are assembled together on
the ground, then hoisted into position on the reflector. Perform the
following procedure to install the spars and subreflector on either
the 18-meter antenna (illustrated in Figure 4-8) or the 16-meter
antenna (illustrated in Figure 4-9). INSTALLATION OF
SPARS AND
SUBREFLECTOR
1. Support subreflector (item 1 in Figure 4-8 or 4-9) face down on soft
packing material so that the spun surface is not dented or scarred.
2. Secure lifting straps to each of the spars (item 2).
NOTE
The lifting straps must be able to support a 500 lb (227 kg)
load. The straps should be attached to balance the subreflector
to prevent damage.
3. Assemble four spars to spar fitting (item 3) using three screws (item
101), six washers (item 103), and three nuts (item 105).
NOTE
The center lines of the four spars come together at a point in
the center of the spar connector.
4. Torque fasteners to the following values and remove straps.
3/4-inch Fasteners 260 ft-lbs (353 Nm)
5/8-inch Fasteners 150 ft-lbs (203 Nm)
1/2-inch Fasteners 76 ft-lbs (103 Nm)
5. Carefully, lay mounting frame (item 4) on top of subreflector back as
indicated in Figure 4-8 or 4-9, Sheet 2.
6. Install 6 subreflector adjusters (item 7) on 6 threaded rods (item 10)
and secure two to support frame and four to mounting frame using 18
nuts (item 112) and 18 washers (item 103) as indicated in Figure 4-8
or 4-9.
7. Attach support frame (item 5) to subreflector using three studs (item
6), nine nuts (item 108), and nine washers (item 109). Make sure
support frame is aligned with subreflector and mounting frame as
indicated in Figure 4-8 or 4-9, Sheet 2.
8. Secure mounting frame to support frame using three screws (110), six
washers (item 104), and three nuts (item 106).
