SERIES 8116/8118 16-/18-METER EARTH STATION ANTENNA
5-5
Under normal operation, the antenna will remain pointed at one
satellite, but it may be necessary at some time to point the antenna
at a different one. If that will require a movement in azimuth
beyond the limits set for the current sector, it will be necessary to
change sectors. Following is the procedure for changing azimuth
sectors.
AZIMUTH SECTOR
CHANGE
PROCEDURE
1. Move antenna in azimuth toward desired position. Note whether the
azimuth drive pivot frame (attached to the fixed portion of the mount)
will be beside the rotating frame at the end of travel (outboard
position) or under the frame (inboard position). It will need to be
moved to the other of these two positions.
2. Lift out removable deck plate and set it aside on rotating frame.
3. Locate stow pin and set it on rotating frame under hub. Do not insert
stow pin in the stow block yet.
4. Notice positions of 12 bolts used to secure pivot frame to mount and
remove corresponding ones from the top of mount in the next sector
(next face of hexagon as seen from top of mount). Only the center
row of bolts, except for the one closest to each 3-inch hole, needs to
be removed. See Figure 3-1, Sheet 2 and Figure 5-2. Save the bolts
to use in the current sector.
5. If sector change will be from inboard to outboard position, remove all
pivot frame attachment bolts except two (per end) that remain beside
two alignment pins either before the rotating frame is moved over
pivot frame or while movement is taking place. After pivot frame is
in the inboard position, access can be gained to four remaining bolts
but the others will be under the rotating frame.
6. Move antenna in azimuth to the stow position closer to desired new
azimuth position.
7. Insert stow pin in stow block and into the 3-inch hole in top of mount
structure. It may be necessary to jog antenna and to loosen bolts
holding the stow block to rotating frame in order for stow pin to drop
into place.
8. Tighten stow block attachment bolts if they were loosened.
9. Record azimuth position shown on antenna position controller.
10. Disconnect coupling from azimuth LSR drive shaft. Leave coupling
attached to LSR shaft.
11. Note that LSR drive channel is close to one side of access hatch.
When it is put back up after sector change, it will need to be in the
position closer to the other side of access hatch.
