NetBackup System Administrator’s Guide - Windows NT Server
D
• Compressed or zipped files (scanning does occur if standard NTFS
compression was used)
• Open files that are locked
NetBackup records the results in the activity logs. To enable activity logging
for virus scanning, create either the
bpbkar
or
bpcd
log directory on the client:
install_path
\NetBackup\logs\bpbkar\
(on Windows NT)
install_path
\NetBackup\logs\bpcd\
(on Windows 95 and 98)
Logs are then written in the activity log directory in the form:
yymmdd
.log
Messages about infected files are also sent to the server so they appear in the
reports.
Notes About Virus Scanning
Before using NetBackup virus scanning, disable any virus protection software
that is already installed on the system. Other anti-virus software can slow
down NetBackup's virus scanning process. It can also cause unnecessary alerts
or unexpected warning messages.
New viruses constantly appear, so it is important to keep the protection
signature files up to date. VERITAS recommends that you down load these
files every 30 days. The procedure is as follows:
1. Select VERITAS Web Page from the Help menu in the Configure -
NetBackup window. The VERITAS web page appears.
2. Follow the virus scanning link for instructions to download
dat
files. The
following files are available for download:
scan.dat
clean.dat
names.dat
3. Copy the files to the install_path
\NetBackup\bin folder
.
The following topics explain the settings on this tab.
