Introduction to NetBackup Catalog Backups
NetBackup catalogs are internal databases that contain information about the
NetBackup configuration and any backups that have been performed. The
information about backups includes records of the files and the media on
which the files were stored. The catalogs also have information about the
media and storage devices that are under the control of Media Manager.
Back up the NetBackup catalogs on a regular basis to ensure that you can
restore your regular backups in case there is a problem with the disk that
contains the catalogs.
Where are the Catalog Files?
The NetBackup catalogs reside both on master and slave servers. NetBackup
chooses default locations for them during installation (see “Files Tab” on
page 184). If you move these files, change your catalog backup configuration
accordingly.
What Method Do I Use to Back Them Up?
Because the NetBackup catalogs are essential to restoring files in case of a disk
crash, the process for backing them up is separate and different than for
standard backups. The two available methods are:
• Automatic backup according to the configuration that you choose in
“Configuring Catalog Backups” on page 178.
