Client Management
The topics in this section cover the following aspects of managing NetBackup
clients:
• Server-Directed Restores
• Allowing Restores to an Alternate Client
• Indexing the Image Database to Reduce Restore Times
A related topic is “Rules for Using Host Names in NetBackup” on page 422.
Incorrectly specified host names are often a factor in file restore problems.
NetBackup Client Properties
An administrator can change many client properties by using the NetBackup
Administration interface on the master server. For more information, see
“NetBackup Properties” on page 132.
Server-Directed Restores
An administrator can use the Backup, Archive, and Restore interface on the
NetBackup master server to direct restores to any client, providing NetBackup
on the client is configured to permit them. See Appendix C, “Server Directed
Restores,” for more information.
Allowing Restores to an Alternate Client
The user interfaces on NetBackup clients have options for restoring files that
were backed up by other clients. The client that did not back up the files is
called an alternate client and the operation is called an alternate-client restore.
